-- A High Turnover Rate --

Approximately 60 percent of new-hires make it through new-hire training and, of those, approximately 50 percent make it through their first year with the company. The high attrition rate is due to a combination of individuals quitting and those that are let go by the company.

The above statistics are industry-wide. Airlines with the highest number of flight attendants have the highest turnover rates.

Since the airlines claim that only 1 out of every 100 applicants is chosen for the flight attendant position, it's easy to see why they're in a hiring mode more often than not.

Another interesting fact is that job satisfaction is quite high for those that make it past the first year.

So why the high turnover rate among new people? We believe it's because the majority of today's applicants know very little about the flight attendant career, basing their desire to work in this industry on myths and stereotypes.

Many apply, but few know what the job is all about. Consequently, many new-hires are dissatisfied with the demands of the job and ultimately quit to pursue other professions.
