Set Up Of Cabin Crew Group

Cabin crew group is how the department is set up within the company. Depending on the company's structure, the group can be known as a Department, a Division or section.

The cabin crew group can be one of the largest group in a company. The number can range from 15% to 25% of the total work force. However, we have to bear in mind that this group is one of the few that are considered as absent work force, that mean that they do not have to go to the office regularly as some other staff.

The set up or structure on the cabin crew group within the airline will depend so much on the management prerogative. Let us look at the nature of cabin crews and its possible natural set up.

1. Cabin Crew flies with the aircraft - So some argue that the cabin crew group should be together with the pilots. The argument is simple, the cabin crew flies, pilot flies... so cabin crew and the pilot should be together in a division or department. So if the management decided so, so shall it be.

There are always argument against this. Cabin crew are front liners, they serve the passengers directly and their performance are scrutinized by the public. The pilot are backroom operators. The pilot always think they are at least two steps above the cabin crews. They should be given a better hotel and better services. After all they are better paid and commander of the flight. So in this structure the pilot will always be the boss.

2. Cabin crews serve the passengers, so they are part of the customers services.
